Give A Dog A Ball

Footie fever isn’t only for The World Cup -- charity asks for football donations. Homeless hounds love to chase a ball about too

London animal rescue charity asks for donations of unwanted footballs for dogs to play with in their kennels.

The Mayhew Animal Home is asking those footie fans who have World Cup fever to think of others who like the beautiful game –homeless hounds.

The rescue centre in Kensal Green is asking for donations of footballs for the dogs waiting in kennels to be adopted by a new owner. As well as the regular walks that each dog goes on every day at the Home, there are two large exercise areas at the centre where dogs can go and play –ideal for a bit of a kick about with the staff and volunteers working on the kennels.

Mayhew CEO, Caroline Yates, said: “We make sure that every dog in our kennels gets at least four walks a day and time to play in our exercise runs. Pretty much all of the dogs here are footie mad and just love to chase a ball up and down the run. However, due to the enthusiasm for the beautiful game, these footballs often don’t last too long and we need to replenish our supplies!”

“We are asking World cup fans to spare a thought for our football loving dogs and have a rummage to find any balls they could donate to the Home and make a homeless hound very happy.”

Anyone can leave donations at The Mayhew’s reception at The Mayhew Animal Home, Trenmar Gardens, Kensal Green, London NW10 6BJ.

The Mayhew Animal Home was established in 1886 for the benefit of “the lost and starving dogs and cats of London so that they should have sanctuary from the cold inhumanity they are being dealt outside”. Today, The Mayhew is one of the busiest animal sanctuaries in London, rescuing thousands of animals from cruelty and neglect each year. We provide shelter and care for cats, dogs, rabbits and when the need arises, for a wide variety of other animals.

The Mayhew Animal Home strives to tackle the companion animal welfare crisis from every possible angle. The organisation is pro-active, innovative and continually works to assist animals and their carers. The Mayhew offers a wide variety of community services providing advice, care and assistance to animals and their carers whatever their circumstances.
