Cats are a mysterious breed of creature, aren't they? They have a hint of mystery surrounding them and frequently have stories associated with them that turn out to be rather false when looked at closely. Just how mysterious are cats? Are they really beyond our comprehension? Here are a few myths about cats that just don't hold up.

Cats Are Bad Around Babies: There's no need to get into the myth of cats sitting on faces to steal your soul while you sleep, but there is the real fear that kitties will make it a habit of sitting on the faces of babies in order to smother them, either intentionally or by complete accidents. While it's best to be aware of what your cat is doing around your baby, cats aren't going to make a point of smothering your child. Most cats, if you haven't noticed, don't particularly like babies due entirely to the noise they make and their penchant for grabbing anything that gets close enough. Cats are aware enough to realize that perhaps these screaming, prodding things are best left alone. It's not likely that your cat will harm your child, but just keep an eye on the situation.

Cats Look Out Only For Themselves: All you have to do is watch a cat go about his business for a day and you'll come to the quick conclusion that all kitties are just looking out for number one and everyone else can just get out of their way. But that's not always the case. Not even close. Cats, while independent, are not heartless. Stories are everywhere of cats being friends with dogs, mice, horses, and all sorts of animals in between. Furthermore, there are just as many stories of cats going out of their way to comfort other animals who need them, such as a feline curling up next to a sick dog or even leading around a blind animal out of some strange need to help. Kitties may be odd, but they're not heartless.

Cats Can Only See Black & White: It's pretty common to assume that cats and dogs have the same eyesight. Dogs are colorblind, but cats, surprisingly, are not. They can actually see just as many colors as humans, except a cat's vision is much blurrier. The thing is, cats see mostly through motion, so while they may not be able to see very great when nothing is moving, even the slightest shift in the distance will cause them to perk up and spot it instantly.

Cats are just interesting creatures. The more we learn about them, the more questions we inevitably start asking. What sort of curious myths have you heard about cats?
