You can get into a car with them, take them along with you for long trips and go shopping with them. Having one makes one feel like they have a baby. Some people go for small dogs because they might be lonely, maybe because they are far away from their families and want to bring the sense of having them closer.
Other crucial reasons for buying small dogs include the fact that they have longer lives so their companionship is more long lasting. The reasons are; the smaller one's heart do not work as hard while their chests are not as deep as of large ones. Again joint problems popular with large dogs as they age are not experienced by the smaller dogs.
Types of small dogs for people with small spaces and those with allergies include Silky Terrier, Coton de Tulear and the Havenese. The American Kennel Club considers them to be of the 'toy' size. The Silky Terrier developed through a cross of Yorkshire terrier and Australian terrier has very sharp alertness and enjoys activities. They have long soft and smooth hair that does not shed. The dog becomes aggressive when teased or provoked. The people around as well as the dog itself needs training on how to get along with each other.
Coton de Tulear is an intelligent breed and extremely playful. The pure breed is white in color and does not shed like Havenese so it needs to be brushed once or twice a week. Getting along with this dog is easy and it will experience separation anxiety at times. Generally, these dogs are healthy and will live for about 14 to 18 years.
The Havenese is uncommon and the grooming is not a problem with this breed. They are playful and friendly and will get along with other dogs and children and other people without being overly possessive. They have a sturdy frame and are easy to calm. Unfortunately, they are prone to many ailments such as hip dysplasia and cataracts.
